Most sets come from Sanzo Wada’s 1933 dictionary of colour combinations, picked for contrast that scans.

Everything happens in your browser. What you type, your WiFi password and your logo never leave your device. For print, use the SVG: it stays sharp at any size.

What a contact card code does

The code contains a vCard, the standard format phones and email programs use for contacts. When someone scans it, their phone shows your details with a button to save them. It works with the normal camera on iPhone and on most Android phones.

Less is more

Every field you add makes the pattern denser, and dense codes need to be printed bigger to scan well. For a business card, name, company, phone, email and website are usually enough. The address is optional and hidden away for that reason.

Print the code at least 2.5 cm wide on a card, and use the SVG download so it stays crisp. Then test it with two or three phones before you print a whole box.

Contact card or link?

A contact card code saves your details in one step, but once it is printed it cannot change. If you change your number or email, you need new cards. The alternative is a code that links to a page about you on your own website. It can say more, show your work, and you can update it at any time. Many people do both: the contact card on the back of the card, and the website printed as text.

Questions

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. Both read vCard codes with the normal camera and offer to save the contact.

Can I change my details later?

Not in a printed code: the details are written into it. Make a new code when something changes. If you expect changes, link to a page on your website instead.

Are my details stored anywhere?

No. The code is made in your browser. Your name, phone number and email are never sent to us.

Can I use accents and other alphabets in my name?

Yes. The code stores the text as UTF-8, which modern phones read correctly.
